The University Writing Center (UWC) was developed to help clients with their writing at any stage of the writing process. We can provide quality feedback about your writing, problem-solving strategies for your writing, and assistance with academic technology.
We offer both face-to-face and virtual writing consultations. You can walk in at any time that we’re open, or schedule an appointment.
When you attend a writing consultation, a staff member will look over your project and provide comments and suggestions as needed to improve its content, development, and organization. Staff can also help you identify patterns of error in your grammar, spelling, and punctuation so you can learn how to correct these errors on your own. Interns will not proofread your paper for you, but will instead teach you techniques for how to do this for yourself.
While the UWC is primarily oriented to help current students at the university, non-students can also utilize UWC services. Please call for more information. The UWC is located in the Student Union B (SUB) Room 116. For more information about us and the services we provide, please call our office at (501) 569-8343.
Our Online Writing Lab can be reached on Blackboard. If you can’t access our Online Writing Lab, follow these instructions.
The UWC offers services on a walk-in or appointment basis for both online and on-campus students.
IMPORTANT: The UWC is not open during final’s week.
Face-to-Face Tutoring Session If you want to have an in-person conference with one of our trained staff members, you can simply walk in during the hours we’re open, or you can schedule a tutoring session. The Ottenheimer Library, Communication Skills Center, and University Writing Center have partnered to offer additional support for students. Visit the Communication Skills Center website to schedule an appointment in the library beyond our normal business hours. Online Tutoring Session The UWC has partnered with eLearning in order to expand our online services to respond to the needs of our online as well as on-campus students. We offer two completely online services for our students: You can submit a project on this form by uploading your file. A staff member will review and comment on your paper within 48 hours once we have received enough information about your assignment to proceed with a conference. You can attend a virtual writing conference (video chat) via Blackboard Collaborate. If you would like to schedule an online video chat session to get feedback on your writing, please call (501) 569-8343 or email Caleb James (cajames@ualr.edu).The UWC offers internship opportunities to students across the university to work with other student writers. The internship is great professional development for students who are going into an education field or who will do on-the-job writing in their careers. If you wish to apply to be an intern in the UWC, please fill out the internship application, and the director will be in touch with you. It’s important that you find a professor who is familiar with your writing to recommend you for this position.
